This Is Us will officially end its run, on NBC after Season 6.
The Hollywood Reporter first broke and not long after, Variety confirmed with sources.
This shouldn’t come as a big surprise since the creative team behind the show has previously said on multiple occasions that they planned to end the show after six seasons.
“We never set out to make a television series that was going to last 18 seasons, so we have a very direct plan. I have script pages I have written and I’m writing that really are deep, deep, deep into the future. We have a plan for what we’re going to do, and I know what the plan is,” This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman told THR in April 2019.
This Is Us is currently in the midst of its fifth outing, with Season 6 set to begin shooting this summer for a debut during the 2021-2022 broadcast season.
News of the show ending comes just days ahead of NBC’s announcement of its 2021 fall schedule, which is set to happen on Friday.
This Is Us premiered in September 2016. The show follows the lives of the Pearson family and is split between multiple timelines as the three Pearson children, known as the “big three,” grow up.
It stars Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, Sterling K. Brown, Chrissy Metz, and Justin Hartley in the main roles. Susan Kelechi Watson, Chris Sullivan, Jon Huertas, Hannah Zeile, Niles Fitch, Logan Shroyer, Mackenzie Hancsicsak, Parker Bates, Lonnie Chavis, Faithe Herman, Eris Baker, Lyric Ross, Asante Blackk and Griffin Dunne also star in the series.
