The first long weekend of the spring/summer season is upon us and we couldn’t be more excited!

Celebrated as Journée des Patriotes in Quebec, Victoria Day is commemorated on May 24 and is a statutory holiday across Canada. This, of course, means that many of us won’t be working and as such, there will be a lot of businesses closed on Monday.

Here's what's open and closed on May 24.

What’s closed:

All banks and post offices will be closed.

All federal and provincial government offices will be closed.

All municipal courts will be closed.

Some restaurants will be closed (we’d recommend calling beforehand to make sure).

La Grande Bibliothèque is closed on Mondays.

What’s open:

Most SAQ liquor stores will remain open (check the website for specific locations).

Retail stores will remain open.

Montreal’s public markets (Maisonneuve, Atwater, Jean-Talon) will remain open.

Some pharmacies will remain open including Jean Coutu and Pharmaprix.

Select retail stores with street access will remain open.

All parking meters and parking restrictions will remain in effect.

Most restaurants will remain open.

Some grocery stores will remain open.

The Biodome, Montreal Botanical Garden, and Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium will be open.

Eco-centres will be open.

The regular collection schedule for garbage, bulky items, recyclables and composting applies in all Montreal boroughs except Montréal-Nord, which be picked up on Tuesday, May 25.

Also, please keep in mind that due to COVID-19, the Quebec government has implemented a curfew, that will only be lifted the following Friday on May 28. For now, on the island of Montreal, the curfew begins nightly at 9:30 p.m.

Last but not least, public transit schedules may be slower on Monday as the STM will run on its regular weekend schedule.
