Machine Gun Kelly wanted to "dial it up to 110 per cent" with his black tongue at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards.
The Bloody Valentine rocker debuted the show-stopping look at the ceremony on Sunday, as he walked the red carpet with his girlfriend Megan Fox.
He stunned fans with the bold statement, which was revealed as he began to lick the Transformers actress in front of the cameras.
The musician, real name Colson Baker, teased the look with a video on his Instagram Stories before the event of one of his friend's painting his tongue black. "Special accessory for tonight," Kelly captioned the clip.
His stylist Adam Ballheim told Entertainment Tonight that the idea was "100 percent Colson."
"He always knows how to turn the dial up to 110 percent in the most rad way possible," he added.
To complement the outlandish look, Ballheim chose a black Balmain suit for the rocker, and revealed that he wanted to put a spin on a traditional red carpet suit.
"We've done bright colours, and really loud moments so instead of trying to one up those, we liked the concept of taking a very traditional idea – the black suit with a white button down – and putting the MGK spin on it," he explained, noting that it "really came from a place wondering what haven't we done for a major red carpet."
"Balmain, of course, was perfect for that. It's at once classic and very modern, understated and a statement," Ballheim added.
And Megan's outfit was matched to her musician beau's by her stylist Maeve Reilly, who picked a racy Mugler cut-out dress for the actress to wear.
"Megan's amazing stylist Maeve also took that cue and found the most epic LBD in the history of LBDs," Ballheim said.
