Jeff Bezos and his brother Mark will fly into space onboard the maiden voyage of his New Shepard rocket ship in July.

The billionaire businessman will travel to space in the six-seater spacecraft made by his company, Blue Origin, on 20 July, just a couple of weeks after he steps down as Amazon CEO. He will be joined by his brother Mark.

In a video posted to Instagram on Monday, he said, "You see the Earth from space, it changes you. It changes your relationship with this planet, with humanity. It's one Earth. I want to go on this flight because it's the thing I've wanted to do all my life. It's an adventure. It's a big deal for me."

"I wasn't even expecting him to say that he was going on the first flight," Mark added. "And then when he asked me to go along, I was just awestruck. What a remarkable opportunity, not only to have this adventure, but to be able to do it with my best friend."

In the caption, Jeff wrote, "Ever since I was five years I've dreamed of traveling to space, on July 20th, I will take that journey with my brother. The greatest adventure, with my best friend."

Bezos, the one of the world's richest men, will travel towards space in the crewed flight, to a point 60 miles above Earth. The journey will reportedly take just 11 minutes.

Meanwhile, members of the public are currently bidding to win a seat on the New Shepard, alongside Bezos, with the current highest bid being $2.8 million (£1.9 million), reports Variety. The bidding concludes with a live online auction on 12 June.

The winning bid amount will be donated to Blue Origin's foundation, Club for the Future, whose mission is to inspire future generations to pursue careers in STEM and to help invent the future of life in space.
