Canadians and permanent residents will be able to travel without the mandatory quarantine restrictions if they have been inoculated with both Covid-19 vaccines as of July 5.
This decision comes as most provinces have or are close to meeting the 75 per cent rate of Canadians having received at least one dose of the vaccine. To date, over 20 per cent of Canadians have received both vaccines, and the numbers continue to rise as more vaccines are expected to be shipped in the coming weeks. Earlier this month, Canada became the number one leading country in vaccination distribution among its citizens.
Those that are fully vaccinated and wish to travel outside of Canada will be forced to provide electronic proof of vaccination from at least 14 days prior through the government’s app ArriveCAN.
According to CBC, “Officials said travellers must electronically submit COVID-19-related information to the government's ArriveCAN app before arriving, meet the pre- and on-arrival test requirements, be asymptomatic and have a suitable quarantine plan.”
Should travellers be approved, no quarantine will be required. For those travelling with children that are not vaccinated, children must continue to follow the quarantine restrictions.
Canadian citizens, permanent residents, those registered under the Indian Act, and some international students may begin to follow the new rules starting July 5 at 11:59pm ET.
