What’s open and closed on Canada Day

Another Canada Day is upon us, and while all of Quebec is currently in the green zone and has lifted several restrictions, there’s still a lot you won’t be able to do this year on July 1st.

With the long weekend almost here, we have put together a list of places that are open and closed this Canada Day.


Municipal offices will be closed.

The Municipal Court on Gosford St. will be closed.

City of Montreal offices will be closed.

Most major bank branches will be closed.

Shopping malls will be closed.

All SAQ and SQDC outlets will be closed.

Canada Post will not collect or deliver mail.

La Grande Bibliothèque will be closed.



The Atwater, Jean-Talon, and Maisonneuve markets will be open.

Collections of household waste, bulky items, recyclable materials, food waste and green waste will take place. However, in Montreal North, green waste (grass clippings and leaves) will be picked up on July 2.

Montreal swimming pools, sports centres, libraries, and cultural venues will operate on schedules set by boroughs. We recommend you check your local borough’s website for more information.

Montreal’s ecocentres will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Biodôme, Botanical Garden and Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium are open.



All parking restrictions and parking meters remain in effect.

Exo commuter trains will run on Sunday schedules.

Exo bus routes will operate on a reduced schedule.

Société de transport de Montréal buses and métro will run on a special holiday schedule. Check stm.info for more details.

Société de transport de Laval buses will be on a Saturday schedule.

The Réseau de transport de Longueuil will operate on a Saturday schedule. Regular trips on adapted transit are cancelled, so clients must request all rides, which are available from 6:30 a.m. to 1 a.m.
