Starting this July, the Jean-Talon Market will showcase various Black and Indigenous chefs in a pop-up restaurant space called La Maison Onyx that will show off various culinary skills to Montrealers. An initiative by DESTA Food, La Maison Onyx is a Black youth network and non-profit business incubator for Black businesses.

According to MTL Blog, the first restaurant that will be taking over the space is a St-Henri local called Tropikàl Restobar, a Caribbean and Afro-Latin restaurant. Following Tropikàl is Maquis Yasolo, Elle Jay’s Private Dining and Afro-Vegan chef Evy Mendes of Cantine Toca Toca.

“[...]La Maison Onyx will feature street food-style menus using local Quebec products, chef-led market tours at Jean-Talon Market, and on-site food demonstrations.”

La Maison Onyx will be featured at the Jean-Talon Market from July through to October.
