Mattel just unveiled that they will be launching its new Role Model Naomi Osaka Barbie doll this summer… and we’re all for it!
Earlier this week, Naomi Osaka took to her Instagram to share the news and her excitement in this new partnership: “Teamed up with Barbie back in 2019 but this time it’s officially official because today I’m introducing the Barbie Role Model Naomi Osaka doll. I really hope every child is reminded that they can be and do anything. This is really seeing a dream of mine come to life, having your own Barbie and potentially seeing little kids playing with it. Omg 😭🥰❤️”
While this collaboration has been planned since 2019, this launch couldn’t have come at a better time. Last month, Naomi pulled out of the French Open after she was fined and threatened with disqualification for refusing to take part in a press conference. Naomi’s vulnerability and brave actions inspired people everywhere by bringing the conversation of mental health amongst athletes at the very forefront.
There is no doubt in our minds that having Naomi Osaka to be Mattel’s latest Role Model Barbie was an outstanding decision.
You will find the doll rocking her near identical Australian Open outfit that Osaka wore in 2020: a white pleated tennis skirt, Nike fitted tank top, hat, and shoes, as well as Naomi’s tennis racket. The doll is set to be available online on August 15th.
