Do you ever find yourself being dishonest about certain purchases you make? Do you ever lie to your partner about buying something or desperately try to hide the receipt? If so, you are not alone. In fact, while every relationship is different, many couples sometimes lie about how much they spend on certain products. And most couples struggle when talking openly about handling finances in their partnership.
The question then is, what purchases are we lying about?
A recent survey discovered some interesting finds about the financial habits of the modern American couples. According to The Ascent's study, these are the 10 purchases women are most likely to lie about:
10. Clothing
9. Gifts for others
8. Cosmetics
7. Home decor
6. Fast food
5. Hobby-related purchases
4. Shoes
3. Restaurant meals
2. Snacks and candy
1. Groceries
This list has some overlap with the top purchases men lie about. Both men and women tend to be dishonest in connection with hobby-related purchases, fast food, restaurant meals, and gifts for others.
Also worth noting: 65% of men and 47% of women say their relationship prevents them from owning an item they want.
What's most surprising about these results is that groceries came in first place. Who would have ever guessed?
