Lil Nas X strutted onto the red carpet in a three-piece gold ensemble for the 2021 Met Gala on Monday night.

Inspired by the event's theme, In America: A Lexicon on Fashion, the 22-year-old showed off three different looks as he made his entrance at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, with all of the pieces designed by the team at Versace.

First, Was sported a royal-inspired cape. Then - with the help of some trusty assistants - he revealed solid gold body armour and a thick gold choker. For his last look, Has showed off a black and gold body-hugging jumpsuit covered in yellow and white gems.

The three-layered approach was similar to Lady Gaga's 2019 camp-inspired ensemble by Brandon Maxwell, where she slowly unveiled three looks over the course of 16 minutes.

With the golden flair, some pointed out similarities to the event's 2018 theme, Heavenly Bodies, where several stars opted for metallic hues, including Rihanna and Ariana Grande.

The dramatic look comes during a big week for the rapper, who swept the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, including a win for the show's top prize of Video of the Year. Nas's first studio album, Montero, drops at the end of the week.

The LP features collaborations from across the music industry, from Elton John to Miley Cyrus, and is already generating awards buzz.
