Playwright Jeremy O. Harris has announced that Slave Play will return for a limited Broadway run.

The play made history after it received more Tony Award nominations than any other non-musical, having landed 12 nods.

And at an after-party late on Sunday, the playwright announced the show's return to the stage.

"Slave Play's return engagement marks for me a chance for New York and the world to re-meet a play that many met at New York Theatre Workshop and Broadway in 2018 and 2019, and that thousands of others met in its published edition in a year when theatres around the world were dark," Harris said in a statement.

The original cast will return for the production, including Tony nominees Ato Blankson-Wood, Chalia La Tour, and Annie McNamara. Actors Paul Alexander Nolan and Irene Sofia Lucio will also return for the limited run, joined by Antoinette Crowe-Legacy, who played Kaneisha during the show's development at Yale.

"To be doing it in 2021 with the Kaneisha who originated the role at Yale and members of the original cast fills me with the same joy I had watching the play for the very first time in a classroom five years ago," the 32-year-old concluded.

The limited-run will be staged at the August Wilson Theatre, with its official opening night scheduled for 2 December. Harris will continue the show's tradition of "radical accessibility," with over 10,000 tickets available for $39 (£21).
