For the second time in its 23-year history, Canada’s magical holiday train will not run this year.

This marks two years in a row that the train will not operate during the Christmas holiday. Instead, CP has promised to host a virtual benefit concert to raise funds for local food banks along the train’s usual route.

“The spirit of the Holiday Train is about giving generously and inspiring those around us to give as well,” said Keith Creel, president and CEO of CP.

“While we are disappointed, we again cannot bring the Holiday Train to communities, we are honoured to run a virtual program and continue to support communities and food banks across our network as they work to address food insecurity in North America.”

The Holiday Train first travelled across Canada in 1999 and has since raised over $19.4 million and collected more than five million pounds of food for local food banks on their network.

CP is hoping their virtual benefit concert will prompt people to continue to donate, especially in a time of economic uncertainty.
