As of February 7th, cash payments will only be accepted at the automatic ticket machines that are located in each Metro. Only debit or credit card payments will be accepted at the booths.

According to CBC, “The installation of contactless payment systems was completed in December 2020, allowing people to pay quickly with debit and credit cards. It's now the most common payment method.”

While this may cause concern for some STM travellers, they shared that they plan to incorporate more STM agents and managers to help assist with fare purchases at the automatic ticket machines.

In addition, the STM shared that they will be increasing the dollar limit on cash transactions if travellers wish to buy a monthly pass at the vending machines.

Will this affect your travelling moving forward?
