Calling all paddleboard lovers… You can now bring your love of the sport to the Lachine Canal in Montreal!
Parks Canada will officially allow Montrealers to enjoy the Lachine Canal on their paddleboards for the first time (possibly) ever. Given that paddleboarding has grown in popularity in recent years, the government decided to permit site visitors to enjoy this passtime in one of Montreal’s most historically iconic locations.
As this will be a new addition to the canal’s permissions, the National Historic Site has listed certain reminders before embarking on your paddleboard journey:
- Paddleboarding is permitted in some specific areas only.
- Season pass is mandatory.
- Don’t forget your floating vest and a whistle
In addition, Parks Canada recommends that visitors do not go on water if they are under the influence by alcohol or cannabis. They also suggest that paddleboarders inform a loved one or invite a partner with them prior to their visit, for emergency purposes. It is also important to be aware of bad weather, and to avoid using the water for safety reasons.
