The Montreal SPCA has had to take in a good 600 animals over the past three months from renters who couldn't take their pets with them when they moved.

About 52% of Quebecers have a pet, but the SPCA estimates only 4% of dwellings in the province will accept a pet.

The SPCA has started a petition to ban the no-pet clauses in leases – it already has 33,000 names.
