In a recent report, research shows that Quebec women in 2021 received an average of 91 percent of their hourly wage in comparison to their male colleagues.
This of course depends on the field, and the seniority level. For example, women in the natural resources and agriculture sector receive 72 percent of their male colleagues salary (the largest gap for 2021).
While women in the sales and service sector receive 92 percent of the hourly wage of their male equivalent… An increase from the industry staying at 80 percent for a few years.
That being said, there has been progress overall as women overall have jumped from an average of 83 percent in 1998 to 91 percent in 2021. Not 100 percent, but it’s still something!
While it is obvious that men and women should be making equal pay, despite gender playing a role, there has been a huge increase in percentage throughout the years… Which is something worth celebrating.
