After almost 60 years of operation, the Pierrefonds community pool is closing its doors for good. For financial and operational reasons, the PPK unfortunately had to make the difficult decision to cease its services.
“This pool, in order for us to have brought it up to today’s standards, would have been extremely difficult,” said Pierrefonds-Roxboro Mayor Jim Beis, in an interview.
The closing of the the Pierrefonds Park Pool, known to residents as PPK, will be the end of an era for the tight-knit community it has created over the years. “It’s a big part of our lives. We have a lot of fun here, and the kids gather together. They make friends, we become friends as families. For me, as a parent, I know this is a safe place for my kid,” said Lesley Steeves, a member of the pool, in an interview. For decades, the PPK has almost served as a second home to residents like Lesley.
On August 18th, Pierrefonds residents can enjoy a special closing movie night at the PPK pool, followed by a goodbye party the next day. On August 20th, the PPK will say its final au revoir with an afterparty.
