Victoria Beckham has recalled being taunted by thousands of football fans during the 1998 World Cup.

In the new Netflix documentary BECKHAM, the former Spice Girl, 49, recalled the abuse she received while dating her footballer husband David Beckham during an England vs Argentina game.

At the time, David, now 48, was blamed for England's defeat to Argentina after lashing out at player Diego Simeone - sparking a campaign of hate and abuse from fans, reported The Daily Mail.

When the crowd grew tired of targeting David, they began singing songs about Victoria.

"Posh Spice takes it up the a**e," the singer and fashion designer said, revealing the shocking chant. "Excuse my language, not very ladylike. But 75,000 people singing that, it's embarrassing, it's hurtful."

Victoria continued, "I remember sitting down and the lady next to me turned and she didn't know what to say, she said, 'Do you want a polo?' Because what do you say when you sit next to someone and 75,000 people have been saying you take it up the a**e?"

David said the "horrible" chant actually "spurred" him on.

"When fans thought they could get to me by singing about my family I ended up scoring a goal," he explained.

BECKHAM will be available to stream on Netflix on 4 October.
