Taylor Lautner has opened up about his past relationship with Taylor Swift.
While appearing on the Call Her Daddy podcast, the Twilight actor spoke of parting ways with the Cruel Summer singer, whom he dated in 2009.
“I think when you respect somebody for who they are, like in their soul, it allows you to move on, forgive and continue that love in a different way,” he shared of their breakup to host Alex Cooper.
Later in the conversation, Lautner confirmed that Swift was “absolutely” the one who ended their relationship.
“I’m thinking back on exactly what happened. But no, yeah, she did,” he said.
Swift and Lautner dated briefly in 2009. It is widely rumoured that her song Back to December is about their breakup.
The Abduction star also noted he and Swift had “stayed friendly” following their split and would “see each other now and then.”
“But we then did fall out of touch and didn’t talk for a while,” Lautner added, “but I’ve always had the deepest respect for who she is as a person before anything else.”
The actor then revealed he and Swift had recently renewed their friendship.
“Honestly I would say one of the greater things to happen in my life over the last year is the rekindling of our friendship,” he confessed.
“Above anything else that she is, she is just a wonderful human. And pretty great to have in your life.”
