Cher has filed paperwork to become the sole conservator of her son Elijah Blue Allman's estate.
The 77-year-old music icon has claimed in new legal documents that her 47-year-old son is unable to care for himself due to his drug addiction.
According to The Blast, Cher believes her son is "substantially unable to manage his own financial resources" and therefore needs a conservator to look after his estate.
"(Cher) has been unable to discuss Elijah's preferences concerning the appointment of a temporary conservator because given Elijah's current mental and physical health issues, discussed in detail in the concurrently filed Confidential Supplemental Information, he is unable to form or express a preference concerning the appointment of a conservator for his estate," the filing reads.
"(Cher) is concerned that any funds distributed to Elijah will immediately be spent on drugs, leaving Elijah with no assets to provide for himself and putting Elijah's life at risk."
The Believe singer also argued that Elijah's estranged wife, Marieangela King, should not be his conservator because "Angela actively works to keep Elijah from getting clean and sober or receiving mental health treatment that he desperately needs".
The filing continues, "Indeed, it would be unsafe for Elijah and his estate because (Cher) is informed and believes that the appointment of Angela as conservator of Elijah's estate would result in the immediate loss or dissipation of Elijah's assets for self-destructive purposes."
In September, it emerged that King had accused Cher of hiring four men to kidnap Elijah in late 2022 when they were trying to reconcile. Cher denied the allegation and opened up about her son's addiction issues.
"I'm a mother. This is my job - one way or another, to try to help my children. You do anything for your children," she told People at the time. "Whenever you can help them, you just do it because that's what being a mother is. But it's joy, even with heartache - mostly, when you think of your children, you just smile and you love them, and you try to be there for them."
The singer shares Elijah with her late second husband Gregg Allman. Elijah married King in 2013 and they split up in 2020.
