Elton John has gained EGOT status, winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony.

The prolific singer and songwriter won the Best Variety Special award at the Emmys on Sunday for his farewell concert, Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium.

This makes him the 19th person in history to win gongs at all of the most prestigious award ceremonies in the world; the Emmys, Grammys, Oscars and Tonys.

Elton is now in an elite club that includes Mel Brooks, Whoopi Goldberg, Rita Moreno, Audrey Hepburn, John Legend, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Jennifer Hudson.

Elton wasn’t at the Emmys on Sunday night to collect his award as he recently had a knee operation.

He has previously won two Oscars for Best Original Song for tracks in The Lion King and Rocketman, one Tony for Aida, and six Grammys.
