Well Canada… Are you ready to pay a bit more to keep your Netflix subscription without ads?

In the company's recent shareholder newsletter, it was announced that the Basic plan, currently priced at $9.99 per month, would no longer be available on the platform.

Customers will have the choice to either move to the similar no-ads Standard plan costing $16.49 per month or to pick a different plan entirely. Currently, the lowest plan is with ads for $5.99 per month, with the most expensive plan being the Premium one for $20.99 per month.

The reason why Netflix has decided to cancel this plan is to “[...] seek to provide a range of prices and plans to meet a wide range of needs, including highly competitive starting prices,” as explained in a recent news release sent to shareholders.

Canada is one of the first countries to have this plan cancelled. It’s expected that Netflix will be cancelling its Basic plan in more countries throughout the 2024.

The streaming service did not share yet the exact date when the plan would no longer be available.
