Travis Kelce has revealed that his recent Eras Tour cameo was his idea.

The American football star joined his girlfriend Taylor Swift on stage for a surprise performance during her third Eras Tour show at London's Wembley Stadium on 23 June.

Speaking on Wednesday's episode of his New Heights podcast with his brother Jason Kelce, Travis revealed the cameo was his idea.

"I initially mentioned it to Tay," the 34-year-old said. "I was like, 'How funny would it be if I just rolled out on one of the bikes during the 1989 era.'"

Travis told Jason that after laughing at the idea, the Love Story hitmaker, also 34, asked him, "Would you seriously be up for doing something like that?"

"I was just like, 'What? I would love to do that, are you kidding me? I've seen the show enough - might as well put me to work here,'" the Kansas City Chiefs player continued. "And sure enough, she found the perfect part of the show for me to come in."

Travis added that the bike idea was scrapped "in case I ran into somebody else or hit one of the dancers or anything".

During the performance, Travis wore a tuxedo and top hat as he carried Taylor on stage. He then helped the singer with her costume change skit for her song I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.

The sports star then told Jason that his moves were inspired by Jim Carrey's tap dance from the 1994 film Dumb and Dumber.

"I always wanted to pull out this move, but I never knew like when I should pull it out where it made sense," he explained. "That's one of my favourite moves of all time!"

Travis also teased future cameos during the tour, adding, "Who knows, might not be the last time. You guys will have to keep showing up to the Eras Tour to see if I pop out of the stage or whatnot."
