Mariah Carey has revealed her mother and sister both died on the same day.
The singer released a statement announcing that both her mum Patricia, 87, and sister Alison, 63, died this weekend.
"My heart is broken that I've lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day," she wrote.
"I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed. I appreciate everyone's love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time."
There were no other details about the causes of death for either woman.
Patricia was married to Mariah and Alison's father, Alfred Roy Carey. They also had a son, Morgan. The couple divorced when Mariah was three years old.
The Hero singer has been open about her tricky relationship with her mum and the rest of her family.
"Like many aspects of my life, my journey with my mother has been full of contradictions and competing realities. It's never been only black-and-white - it's been a whole rainbow of emotions," she wrote in her memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, in 2020.
"Our relationship is a prickly rope of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration and disappointment. A complicated love tethers my heart to my mother's."
In the book, she also talked about her siblings, writing that for many years it was "emotionally and physically safer for me not to have any contact" with her or Morgan.
