If you’ve noticed that tipping has become more expensive lately, you’re not alone – and the Quebec government is aware of it.

In an effort to curb excessive tipping practices, the government is planning to introduce new legislation.

Simon Jolin-Barrette, the minister responsible for consumer protection, has presented a bill aimed at helping consumers by requiring businesses to exclude both provincial and federal sales taxes when calculating suggested tips.

Additionally, the bill proposes that tips contribute to greater compensation for customers when a product's price is higher than what’s advertised when scanned at the register.
