'Downton Abbey' and 'Harry Potter' Actress Dame Maggie Smith dies at 89

Actress Dame Maggie Smith passed away at the age of 89 earlier on Friday in the hospital. 

The British stage and screen legend was renowned for her iconic roles in Downton Abbey and the Harry Potter series. Over her illustrious career, she won two Academy Awards: one for The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1970) and another for California Suite (1979).

Her sons, Toby Stephens and Chris Larkin, shared a statement: 'It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dame Maggie Smith.
