If you were hoping for an extra lane on the Île-aux-Tourtes Bridge as an early Christmas gift, we have some disappointing news.

Quebec’s Transport Ministry has announced a delay in the reopening of a fourth lane on the bridge connecting Montreal to Vaudreuil-Dorion via Highway 40. According to the ministry, additional interventions are required before the deck can handle the increased load.

While a new reopening date has not been set, officials expect the fourth lane to open before the end of winter.

For now, the bridge will continue operating with its current three-lane configuration.
