Taylor Swift has disappointed fans who were hoping for an announcement regarding her re-recorded album Reputation at the American Music Awards.
Speculation was rife that Swift would use the AMAs to announce the arrival of her new album.
Fans went online to share that the singer had hidden the number 26 - a reference to 26 May - in various places to suggest she may announce new music during the awards ceremony. Merchandise on Swift's website was discounted at 26% off, while the order of links - Apparel, Music, Accessories, Sale - spelled out AMAs.
Instead, Swift was a no-show on the red carpet. She was shortlisted for six awards: Artist of the Year; Favourite Female Pop Artist; Album of the Year; Favourite Pop Album; Collaboration of the Year; and Favourite Touring Artist. She won none.
Swift announced in 2019 that she would re-record her first six albums after her former label, Big Machine Records, was purchased by Scooter Braun, giving him the rights to Swift's master recordings.
To date, she has re-released four of her first six albums, with only Reputation and her debut album, Taylor Swift, left on the list.
All her re-recorded albums have topped the charts, and include previously unreleased songs.
