Smoke from devastating wildfires in the Canadian Prairies is drifting eastward and impacting air quality in the Greater Montreal area.

Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a special air quality statement, which is expected to remain in effect until Saturday.

The smoke is especially hazardous for seniors (65+), pregnant individuals, infants and young children, people with pre-existing illnesses or chronic conditions, and those who work outdoors.

Residents are advised to keep windows and doors closed as much as possible. If you must go outside, wearing a mask is recommended to reduce exposure to fine particles in the smoke.
