Well Montreal, it looks like the STM strike that happened this past week (and is thankfully now over) had a big impact on how people got around — so much so that BIXI Montreal users have officially set a new usage record!

According to BIXI Montreal, more than 80,000 trips were made per day on seven of the nine strike days — including a whopping 95,523 trips on June 11 alone. Each of those seven days broke the previous 2024 daily record of 79,868 trips.

In total, nearly 700,000 trips were made during the strike period, covering about 2.2 million kilometres — the equivalent of going around the Earth 54 times, according to BIXI Montreal spokesperson Pierre-Luc Marier.

Well then, it’s safe to say bike lanes are a crucial part of getting around Montreal after all!
