Zayn Malik has called out the racism he faced during his One Direction days in a new song.
The singer shared a post on Instagram, previewing a new rap song titled Fuchsia Sea.
In the lyrics, Malik alludes to the racism he faced while a member of the band with Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and the late Liam Payne.
"Got my back against the wall so much they think I got a brick fascination / Do you remember every conversation? 'Cause I have been conscious of every connotation," Malik recites in the song snippet.
"And while they concentrate on their elevation, I've got a round trip to the constellation / I'm a convert to the concert, and I did that for inflation, 'cause I worked hard in a White band, and they still laughed at the Asian," he continued.
Malik revealed in his post that the song would be "coming soon".
Malik's teaser about new music comes after he marked the 10th anniversary of his exit from One Direction back in March.
He was a member of the boy band from 2010 to 2015. He said at the time that he felt the need to pursue his own musical direction and experience a more normal life outside the spotlight of the band.
He also mentioned underlying issues within the band's friendships.
