Big changes are coming to one of Montreal’s most beloved pedestrian strips! Mayor Valérie Plante has announced that the Village will remain car-free all year long as part of a major redevelopment plan for Sainte-Catherine Street East, spanning from Berri Street to De Lorimier Avenue.

As part of the project, the city also revealed plans to plant 225 trees, create over 1,000 square metres of green spaces, and add other features aimed at making the area more vibrant, welcoming, and dynamic.

Construction is set to begin in fall 2026.
