Quebec Extends Deadline for New Pool Rules

Good news for pool owners across Quebec! The deadline to comply with residential pool safety regulations has been pushed back by one year.

Originally set for September 30, 2025, the cutoff date is now September 30, 2026, giving homeowners more time to make the required changes and avoid fines of up to $1,000.

The rules apply to all types of pools — in-ground, above-ground, temporary, and inflatable. They require:

  • A fence or barrier at least 1.2 metres high
  • Gates that are self-closing and self-latching
  • No climbable objects near the barrier
  • Secure ladders or access points for above-ground pools

Anyone who does not comply can face fines ranging from $500 to $1,000.

The province explained that the extension was granted because many homeowners hadn’t had enough time to complete the necessary modifications.
