Sharing the podium with iconic innovations like YouTube and the iPhone, Montreal’s BIXI has earned a spot in TIME magazine’s Best Inventions Hall of Fame.

While the magazine has been highlighting groundbreaking inventions since 2000, the BIXI public bike system first launched in 2008.

Being recognized by TIME confirms that innovation born here can have a worldwide impact,” said BIXI Montreal’s general director, Christian Vermette.

Today, BIXI operates across 13 cities in Quebec with around 12,600 bicycles and 3,200 e-bikes, including the world’s first bike trailer service.
