Everyone’s talking about the ice storm coming to Montreal, so here’s the move to stay safe.

Before it hits

Avoid driving if you don’t have to. You’ll want to park away from trees and power lines, and bring in anything sitting outside. Make sure you have a 72-hour kit ready with water, food, a first aid kit, and extra batteries/blankets.

Also, charge your phone and all your devices now. Keep a physical list of emergency numbers just in case your phone dies.

During the storm

Stay off the roads—they’re going to be dangerous. If you’re using a generator, keep it outside only. Be extra careful with space heaters if you're using them.

If the power goes out

Unplug your electronics so they don't get fried when the power comes back on.

Keep the fridge and freezer closed to keep your food cold, and use flashlights instead of candles.

Make sure you stay updated by checking Environment Canada for weather alerts and Hydro-Quebec’s map for outages in your area.
