Why Montreal Gas Prices Are Staying High

Why Montreal Gas Prices Are Staying High
The Canadian Press / The Canadian Press

If you've filled up your car in Montreal lately, you’ve probably noticed that prices are still high. Even though the global cost of crude oil has gone down, prices at local gas stations aren't dropping nearly as fast.

Right now, the average price for regular gas in Montreal is around 175.5 cents per litre. While a few stations in Montreal, Laval, and Longueuil have dipped slightly to 172.9 cents, drivers are still paying more than usual.

Experts say this is a common trend: when global oil prices drop, it takes time for those savings to reach local gas stations. It’s like a slow chain reaction as the market settles back down. Unfortunately, this slow drop is also affecting aviation fuel, which is why extra fees on flight tickets are still sticking around for now.
