It seems we really want our signature dish represented on our keyboards! Over 5,000 people have already signed a petition backing the creation of an official poutine emoji.

The Quebec restaurant chain Valentine is behind the push. According to their marketing director, Eliza Lafond, poutine is a true cultural symbol for both Quebec and Canada that deserves its own icon.

The petition runs until July 31st, after which the company will submit a formal proposal to the Unicode Consortium, the official organization that approves emojis.
