The Christmas display in Ogilvy’s window which has delighted families since 1947 has come to an end.

All the display items have been donated to the McCord Museum. They not only donated the toys to the McCord Museum but also gave an additional $50,000. They chose to donate the toys to the Museum because they felt they were the best fit to take good care of the toys.

The McCord Museum said they will use that money to restore the toys and put together an exhibition for Montrealer’s to attend for free this coming Christmas.

It was a very hard decision for us, It was a question of space and doing the right thing for the window. So instead of putting risk of losing the window, we did not want to do that.

Since Ogilvy’s and Holt Renfrew merged back in 2011, they are not only getting rid of their 70-year-old tradition window display but they also got rid of their bagpipers that that wandered through the store at lunchtime.

Holt Renfrew is gearing towards becoming a luxury shopping destination, so they have decided to start a new tradition.
