We all know people who are AMAZING at giving gifts… And people who aren’t very good at all!
According to Psychology Today, that’s because there are 5 types of gift givers, and they’re NOT all made equal! Here they are, and we’re willing to bet you’ll recognize some of your family and friends in these descriptions…
The Genuine Giver
These people give real thought to what they give, and their gifts are usually amazing! Most of the time, they’re based on real things about you, things you said, or they’re just downright useful things. These are the BEST types of givers.
The Status Hound
This person wants their gift to say something about THEM. Usually, the idea is to show off wealth or power. This person may gift something inappropriately expensive and not otherwise useful or nice.
The Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing
Like the Status Hound, this person gives gifts for themselves, and not so much for the recipient. They want to be seen as generous and thoughtful but they really aren’t Their gifts may be perfectly wrapped without much inside, a little over-the-top or even competitive with other people’s gifts.
The Power Player
These people understand how gifts can cause pain, and don’t hesitate to use this knowledge. This person might give you clothing that’s too small to send a message, or give your children inappropriately expensive gifts to earn their affection over yours.
The Complainer
Like the name says, this person will make a point to COMPLAIN about how much of a pain it was to get your gift… As if shopping was an easy task for any of us! They’ll tell you ALL ABOUT the epic, hours-long expedition they had to endure to get your gift in the hopes that you’ll show them additional gratitude.
