Air Canada is laying off 5,000 flight attendants, according to a union spokesperson. The largest airline in the country has already announced that it will soon drastically reduce its number of flights.

The measure will take effect in April and will affect around 60% of flight attendants.

More specifically, 3,600 Air Canada flight attendants and just under 1,600 of Air Canada Rouge will be unemployed.

Air Canada states that this is a temporary measure.
