The International Olympic Committee did not yet make a decision to postpone the Tokyo Games, but Canada was the first country to announce that they will not compete this summer, calling for one-year postponement
Canada was immediately followed by Australia.
The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) and the Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) issued a joint press release announcing this difficult decision. They are supported in this regard by their Athletes' Commissions, their national sport organizations (NSOs) and by the Government of Canada.
However, some Canadian athletes have expressed reservations about this decision, considering it personal.
