Joyeuse Fête nationale! Joyeuse Saint-Jean tout le monde!

This week we celebrate la Saint Jean-Baptiste, but unlike previous years, Quebecers won’t have as many options when it comes to celebrating with big crowds. This year, we won’t be able to cram into nightclubs, visit street festivals nor we will be able to attend Le Grand Spectacle— and as with every other year, there are plenty of businesses and offices that will be closed for the Holiday.

That’s why we’ve assembled a list of many things that are open and closed for La Fête Nationale!

What’s closed:

Federal and provincial government offices

Permit counters and municipal courts across Montreal

Banks

Canada Post offices

SQDC cannabis shops

SAQ stores

Most Montreal city offices

Most private sector offices

Shopping malls

Grocery stores and supermarkets larger than 375 square metres in size

Most sports centres and arenas

Montreal Science Centre

Accès Montreal offices;

La Grande Bibliothèque;

What’s open:

311, Montreal’s information hotline

Parking meters remain in effect on holidays.

Most dépanneurs

Pharmacies buy could reduce the hours

Cinemas

Public beaches (selective ones, call beforehand)

Parc Jean-Drapeau

Public markets, like Atwater, Jean-Talon and Maisonneuve;

Swimming pools, sports centres, libraries and other cultural sites will operate on a holiday schedule. Check your borough website for more information.

The Biodôme, Botanical Garden and Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium.

Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (hours might differ)

The city’s Botanical Gardens

Public markets/farmers markets

Some smaller grocery stores can remain open at their leisure, though hours may be reduced

Transit and Other Info

The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) Metro and buses will run on a holiday schedule.

The Société de transport de Laval (STL) and Réseau de transport de Longueuil (RTL) will run on a Sunday schedule.
