I’m sure you’ve heard this many times before but there are way too many streaming services and trying to keep up with all of the new shows and movies to watch is a daunting task.
That’s why we’ve compiled a shortlist of things we recommend watching this weekend. While not all of these shows will satisfy everyone's tastes, there is at least something for everyone.

The Umbrella Academy Season 2 (Netflix)
If you’re a fan of season one, you are going to love season two. The Umbrella Academy‘s second year improves on almost all of its characters and is just short of achieving greatness. Of course, if you’re not a fan of the first season, you’ll want to skip this.
The Umbrella Academy season reaches Netflix this Friday, 31 July.
Official synopsis
Five warned his family (so, so many times) that using his powers to escape from Vanya’s 2019 apocalypse was risky. Well, he was right - the time jump scatters the siblings in time in and around Dallas, Texas. Over a three year period. Starting in 1960. Some, having been stuck in the past for years, have built lives and moved on, certain they’re the only ones who survived. Five is the last to land, smack dab in the middle of a nuclear doomsday, which - spoiler alert! - turns out is a result of the group’s disruption of the timeline (déjà vu, anyone?). Now the Umbrella Academy must find a way to reunite, figure out what caused doomsday, put a stop to it, and return to the present timeline to stop that other apocalypse. All while being hunted by a trio of ruthless Swedish assassins. But seriously, no pressure or anything.

Black Is King (Disney+)
Beyoncé has spent the last year crafting her newest visual album, Black Is King, and it is now available to stream on Disney+. As expected, the internet is pretty much in meltdown right now which is why we recommend this fun article over on Buzzfeed which shows how fans are reacting to it online.
Official synopsis:
A young African king is cast out from his family into an unforgiving world. He subsequently undergoes a journey "through betrayal, love and self-identity" to reclaim his throne, utilizing the guidance of his ancestors and childhood love. The story is told through the voices of present-day Black people.

Muppets Now (Disney+)
Ever since The Muppet Show premiered in 1976, Kermit the Frog & Co. have been reinvented many times over on television. Muppets Now isn’t the best series featuring Jim Henson’s beloved creations but from what I’ve seen so far, it’s much better than the disappointing 2015 ABC sitcom and well worth your time.

The Go-Go's (Showtime, Friday at 9:00 PM)
The authorized documentary chronicles one of the most successful female rock bands of all time, using candid interviews and archival footage.

Fridge Wars (CW, Sunday at 8:00 PM)
Hosted by Emma Hunter, the CBC original series Fridge Wars pits two celebrity chefs against one another with a challenge to create extraordinary meals using only the ingredients taken from the ordinary fridges of Canadian families. The improvised dinners must win over two families who act as judges to determine which chef wins each epic battle.
