Quebec public health has announced 303 coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, the province’s fourth consecutive day of over 250 cases.
According to Santé Quebec, there are now 223 schools that have reported at least one confirmed case of COVID-19 since the start of the school year— an increase of 51 cases since its most recent report on Friday.
The number of reported cases among students and staff stands at 377 diagnosed infections.
"The situation is critical, it's worrisome, and we must react, now," said Premier François Legault in a press conference on Tuesday, asking Quebecers to follow the rules strictly.
Meanwhile, Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante pleaded with Montrealers on Wednesday to respect public health directives to help curb the spread of COVID-19.
“I implore you not to ignore the rules,” Plante said during a meeting of the city’s executive committee. “The first wave was difficult, but the second could be fatal.”
As of Wednesday morning, there are now 65,857 cases in the province, 130 hospitalizations, and 26 patients in the ICU.
It’s not just Quebec either, coronavirus cases are on the rise across Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia as well. On Tuesday, Ontario reported 251 new confirmed cases: the fifth day in a row of more than 200 new infections.
