Today was another day of bad news as Premier François Legault reported this morning that sixteen more people have died of COVID-19 in Quebec. This marks the highest number of deaths reported in one day since July 3.
Quebec public health also has announced 933 new coronavirus cases in their daily update on Thursday morning, as cases continue to rise across the province.
With Montreal now in the red zone and under a lockdown, we recently published an article listing everything that was closed over the next 28 days. On the list, you can find bars, casinos, and public venues— but one thing not on the list is retail stores.
The omission of retails stores might surprise some people since according to new data provided by the Montreal regional public health department— the city logged 98 COVID-19 cases in 38 workplaces with the largest proportion of cases found in retail. And if the data is correct, each case can be traced back to their place of employment.
The regional public health department began recording the data on April 18. According to the report, an outbreak is defined by at least two confirmed cases, in less than 14 days, in which the infection cannot be traced outside the workplace.
