With the holiday season fast approaching, the City of Montreal is looking for ways to help merchants and local businesses during the pandemic and one way is to offer free parking!

Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante announced earlier today that from November 14 to December 31, 2020, all street parking in Montreal will be free during the weekend.

“There is no reason not to come and shop on your local streets,” she said, adding that online shopping giants aren’t the organizations that need help.

Plante said $6 million is being used to help businesses in the entire territory of Montreal's 19 boroughs.

“That means 18,000 parking spaces will be available,” said Plante.

The plan is to help attract customers to the city to do their Christmas shopping and encourage Montrealers to buy local instead of relying on online shopping.

"I invite Montrealers to consume locally this holiday season," said Plante in a press release.
