Quebec health authorities reported 1,397 more cases of COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, the largest reported daily increase since the start of the pandemic.
Montreal added the most new cases with 308, followed by Lanaudière (182), Montérégie (169), and Saguenay Lac-Saint-Jean (155).
The latest figures bring the provincial total to 114,820.
A total of 527 people are currently hospitalized in the province, with 77 in intensive care. Nine new deaths were also reported related to the virus, bringing the total death count in Quebec to 6,440.
Quebec Health Minister Christian Dubé tweeted earlier today that the situation is “very worrying” in certain regions in the province, mainly in Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean and Lanaudière.
The spike comes days before the government plans on re-evaluating the current red zone extensions across the province.
