Good news for those of you who can’t stand a crowded metro!

Société de transport de Montréal has unveiled a new feature on its mobile and desktop website that notifies you how crowded the metro car on the orange line is before you get on.

The feature lets riders know if physical distancing is possible by showing one of four symbols the represent:

Nearly empty. Distancing possible.

Some seats are available. Distancing not possible.

Standing room only. Distancing not possible.

Nearly full.

“The estimated occupancy is a useful tool for planning your trips outside of peak periods whenever possible, making it easier to keep your distance from other customers,” reads the STM press statement.

According to the STM, their website also added the following features:

  • View bus and métro occupancy level
  • Turn on location settings and view the network map from the home screen
  • View your schedules at a glance
  • Add favorites (bus lines or locations)
  • Receive customer alerts for your bus line or stop
  • Use the search tool, now available on all pages

The STM has not yet announced if the tool will be expanded to the network’s other lines.
