Health Canada is recalling more than 190,000 ceiling fans sold at Home Depot, including thousands in Canada, after reports that the blades fell off while spinning, sometimes hurting people and causing property damage.

According to the Government of Canada's recall website, the Hampton Bay Mara indoor and outdoor ceiling fans were sold this year between April and October at Home Depot stores and its website. About 182,000 of them were sold in the U.S. and 5,091 were sold across Canada.

The recalled fans come in Matte White and Matte Black and are model numbers 71918 and 71919, respectively.

“The ceiling fan blades can detach during use, posing an injury hazard to consumers,” Health Canada said.

Consumers should immediately stop using the fan and contact King of Fans for instructions on how to inspect your ceiling fan for defects. If an issue is detected, King of Fans will offer a replacement or refund.
