If you live in Quebec, today is a big day for news. Not only did Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announce that Novavax will be producing its COVID-19 vaccine at a new facility in Montreal— and not only is Premier François Legault updating Quebec on the regions' COVID-19 restrictions— but Quebec's Fred la Marmotte shared an optimistic prediction in the early morning of Groundhog Day 2021.
Fred appeared on his own livestream this year because of COVID-19 restrictions, and according to the famous groundhog, Quebec should be getting an early spring!
Groundhog Day logic derives from the belief that if a groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day and sees its shadow due to clear weather, it will retreat to its den and winter will persist for six more weeks; but if it does not see its shadow because of cloudiness, it signals that spring will arrive early.
